Holistic PT for EVERY body

Experience in physical therapy is not the same experience for all.

Just like back pain is not the same person-to-person.

And back pain doesn’t look a certain way on an x-ray. The look of someone moving with back pain varies wildly.

As with other mechanics of complex machinery, I, as your physical therapist need to look, listen and feel to better understand your symptoms.  This is the art and a science of physical therapy.

A lot of us PTs have similar training.  Yet with mirroring course work, our treatment approaches will be quite distinct.

So what is holistic physical therapy?

As a physical therapist, I am essentially body mechanic that, with insight and experience, is methodical yet intuitive about the human body and its range of functions.

To start, this is what holistic PT is not:

-A simple and quick treatment for a 1-2 word medical diagnosis

-Not Passive therapy

-Is not a technician of hands + exercises rolled into one provider. As usual, PTs don’t prescribe pharmaceuticals, don’t handle needles, scalpels (but I can connect you with those who do!)

-Practicing beyond my California physical therapy scope of practice

Holistic PT looks at the body in total, the sum is greater than its individual parts.

Holistic PT delves into the complex interrelationships of the musculoskeletal system with the nervous system, the digestion system, the circulatory system, the lymphatics, and beyond.

Holistic PT takes into account one’s unique “fingerprint” lifestyle:  How does this person live, work, breathe, rest, play?  How does their body relate to the next person? Their work place and various communities they are part of?

Holistic PT considers the range of social and cultural determinants of health.  How does your race, gender, your neighborhood, your buying power, your social media use dictate how you act, move and even hurt in the world?

Holistic PT is a dynamic, multi-direction conversation and strategy to progress toward practical and realistic personal goals.  It is proactive and fluid in rehab’s flow and pace.

Holistic PT honors one’s lifelong and recent experiences (big and small, positive and less-than-positive) that will can propel or hinder one’s progress and recovery.

Holistic PT is lifespan health.

Holistic PT will communicate and collaborate with other partners in health be they medical and healthcare providers or supportive family and community.

Holistic PT has no protocol, no one-size-fits-all.
